Jazz Age- Duke Ellington
Edward Kennedy Ellington, AKA "Duke" was born on April 29th, 1899. He was born in Washington DC and both of his parents were into and enjoyed music. Duke started music lessons at the age of 7. He enjoyed playing the piano and was good at it, but didn't think he wanted to work in the music industry as a profession. He said he would only continue to play so that he could get all the ladies, because "all the ladies would love a piano player." As Duke continued to play, he realized he had a passion for it. He wrote is first song called, "Soda Fountian Rag" at age 15. He began to play professionally at the age of 17. He was very famous for his era and was a great jazz performer.
